Ingrown Nails

Ingrown toenails can occur for a number of reasons, but no matter the cause, they’re usually unsightly, uncomfortable and could lead to more serious conditions of the foot. If you’re affected by an ingrown toenail, do not attempt to remove it by yourself.  Under medical circumstances, treatment of an ingrown toenail is typically straightforward and simple. We provide this service here at Affiliated Ankle and Foot Care.

While we can effectively correct issues with ingrown toenails, we’d rather help you prevent them in the first place. To avoid toenail issues and prevent from occurring, consider the following:

  • Wear proper footwear to avoid injury, especially if you’re prone to stubbing your toe.

  • Avoid shoes that are too tight and put pressure on the toes.

  • Keep your toes and nails well moisturized and be sure to clean your feet on a daily basis.

Trim your toenails straight across.  It’s best to soak your feet in warm water for about ten minutes to make trimming easy and prevent nail splintering.
